Bereavement Ministry

The passing of a loved one can be a very difficult time for families, and many times assistance is needed with coordinating funeral arrangements. To convey our love, support and spiritual guidance, the Bereavement Ministry Coordinator, under the leadership of our Pastor, will assist families during this time with coordinating all funeral arrangements.
 
 

Christian Education Ministry

Christian Education is the teaching / learning process of helping disciples become aware of God in Jesus Christ. It is a ministry of planned instruction which helps one better understand the Bible and apply biblical truths to life’s experiences. In accordance with Ephesians 4:1-16, we are a church committed to equipping people with relevant and timely truths of the Word of God.

Dance Ministry

The mission of the Dance Ministry is to demonstrate how the power of spiritual excitement and joy for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will "move you to dance". The Dance Ministry brings, through movement, the rhythmic power of a saving and redemptive relationship one develops as a Disciple of Jesus Christ. We present dance as a way to proclaim and teach, pray and worship, forgive and reconcile ourselves to God through Jesus Christ. As we live by Christ's example we empower others to carry out the commands of God in dance as David did when God brought him the victory over his enemy. Therefore, we dance!

Deacon Ministry

The Deacons' purpose is to assist the Pastor in meeting the spiritual needs of the congregation: Assists in the administration of the Holy Communion. Assists in the administration of Baptism. Assist in congregational nurture and care through visiting the sick and shut-in.

Flower Circle

The purpose of the Flower Circle is to beautify the church with floral arrangements. Flower Circle participants also contact the sick and bereaved in order to offer support, compassion, and condolences. God loves us not because of who we are but because of who God is. The Jones Barksdale Memorial Scholarship Program honors the memory and great servant leadership of two long-time leaders of the New Saint Mark Baptist Church (NSMBC), Pastor Allen Jones and Deacon Arthur Barksdale. The purpose of the program is to promote and support the educational growth and scholarship of NSMBC youth and adults, with a priority on young people’s academic achievement beyond high school.

Men’s Ministry is a dynamic, collaborative fellowship of men at NSMBC. In keeping with the NSMBC Vision of Spiritual Regeneration, Social Transformation, Community Reconciliation, and Physical Restoration, we endeavor to support & strengthen men of NSMBC and community in every dimension of life. Open forums which address issues and challenges that men face are held monthly. Men's Ministry is designed to encourage men to take their rightful place within their families, church, and community.

Ministry Mentorship is a collaborative effort with our Pastor to encourage newer members' involvement in congregational life. By sharing tenants of our faith through words and actions, newer Members are encouraged to develop spiritual disciplines which empowers daily living. We strive to fulfill both the Commission to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28: 18-20) and the Commandment to “love one another” (John 13:34:35)

The Missionary Ministry consists of dedicated members who minister to those in need. Missionaries seek every opportunity to be helpful in church-based and neighborhood community ministry activities. Missionaries visit the sick & shut-in, console the sorrowing & lonely, assist the bereaved, and extend christian acquaintances. The Missionary Ministry is ready to help the church body in any way that will make church-life spititually, socially, and economically profitable.

The mission of the Music Ministry is to sanctify all who hear the word in song, and to inspire our spiritual growth. We sing for spiritual fulfillment. We pray for spiritual discernment to know the meaning of the songs we sing. Praise in song is offered by our Mass Choir, Male Chorus, Youth & Young Adult Choir, and the Praise Ministry. Nurses of Mercy / Health Minsitry

Deaconess Jessie Dickerson organized the Nurses of Mercy in late 1957 with just 3 members. Membership has increased throughout the years. The Nurses of Mercy provide aid and comfort to worshippers during our worship services. Nurses of Mercy also visit our sick and shut-in... sharing prayer and expressions of God's love. The Nurses of Mercy Ministry provides health education information, sponsors church-based seminars, and health screenings to the congregation & community.

The Seniors/Golden-Agers Ministry is designed to support our elders as they develope the christian life in their golden years. Programs & classes which address issues of aging and identify appropriate resources are shared. Activities which foster relationship with peers, younger adults and youth help all to grow in the Christian life. Through fellowship, worship, and discipleship we are strengthen by their wisdom and experience.

The Soup Kitchen is an outreach ministry designed to feed, clothe, and assist persons who are in need. Started in June 1996, this ministry shares the word of God, recommends shelter locations, resource information, and referral information concerning drug and alcohol treatment.

Trustees are responsible for the administration of all church property and material assets of the congregation. Among Trustee Ministry responsibilities are: Maintaining appropriate accounting and record-keeping practices. Assuring compliance with federal, state, and local statues. Since their inception, the Ushers of NSMBC have not only been doorkeepers for the Lord; but also provide a service of comfort, awareness, caring and support during each worship service. Ushers take pleasure in ensuring that each worshipper is greeted in the love of God. Every worshipper is greeted with a smile, a hug, or a handshake. NSMBC Youth and Young Adult Ministries reach out to expose youth and young adults to the love of Jesus Christ. The ministry supports and guides youth and young adults as they discover meaningful relationships with Jesus Christ and others. Ministry participants are encouraged to develop a deeper faith & dependence on God, and to honor God through Discipleship, Service and Worship. The Ministry plans fellowship activities which seek to equip Youth and Young Adults for practical living and leadership in society.

The Young Adult Ministry provides Christ-centered support and fellowship to the Young Adults of our church and community. As young adults, we face decisions on careers, lifestyles, and values that can significantly impact the rest of our lives. Through this ministry, we strive to help one another meet these challenges. We seek to strengthen and build our relationship with God, our families, and the church. This ministry is open to all young adults aged 19 - 35.

The Children's Ministry designs, develops, and implements programs to spiritually enrich our children. We teach them how to apply the Word of God to their lives. Teen Ministry

The Teen Ministry exists to promote healthy, spiritual, wholesome activities which encourages teens to grow in faith. We achieve this by developing meaningful relationships with adults and peers through fellowship, and by deepening our experience in the Christian life through worship and discipleship. Ministry participants are encouraged to discover a saving relationship with God and to grow through study, activities, and service. This ministry is open to all youth aged 12 - 18.
 
 

Tutoring Ministry & Homework Clinic

The Tutoring Ministry is designed to help students of all ages with academic studies and enrichment skills building. The Ministry provides help with mathematics, language arts and homework assistance. Tutors have experience in the field of education. Students also receive a healthy snack during each session.

Since its inception in the Fall 2007 with one elementary school student, the ministry has significantly increased its number of participants through the end of each school year. Students are tested to determine skill levels in mathematics and language. Tutors then build on their existing skills in order to increase academic performance. Individual homework help is provided.

While the Tutoring Ministry presently has elementary and middle school students, High School students are welcome. Open from 5:30 to 6:30 pm each Wednesday that Baltimore City Public Schools are open, the ministry is free to all.
